Omnicane has received the Green Africa Awards 2013 in the category of Green Business and CSR Initiatives. The award ceremony was held at Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebène, Mauritius on Friday 28th June 2013.

The event was organized by the African Network for Policy Research and Advocacy for Sustainability (ANPRAS). ANPRAS, through its ‘Green Citizenship and Sustainability Council’, has set up a special arm to create awareness and promote sustainable living in across Africa. The Green Africa Awards (GAA) aims at rewarding green endeavours at grassroots in a plethora of domains and has been specifically tailored to advocate and promote the philosophy of the UN Millennium Development Goals. The trophy for the winner of the Green Business & CSR Initiatives category was presented by Mr. Kadress Pillay, Chairman of the National Empowerment Foundation to Mr. Rajiv Ramlugon, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of Omnicane.
In his speech, Mr Ramlugon thanked the organizers for such a commendable initiative and dedicated the award to all the employees of Omnicane. He also thanked the members of Omnicane Foundation for their dedication towards the community through corporate social and environmental responsibility actions. Mr Ramlugon also gave a glimpse of the future projects of Omnicane in Africa, such as the implementation of a cane and energy cluster in Kenya, based on the model of La Baraque, and the setting up of a hydro power plant in Rwanda.
