With sugarcane cultivation and transformation at the core of our activities, and with our cane sugar and energy operations centred on our flexi-factory complex, 'Integrating Energies' translates our resolve to plan and execute our entire production as an integrated whole.
Our agricultural operations are carried out in two main regions – Mon Trésor and Britannia. With 3,000 hectares of land under sugarcane cultivation and around 2,800 hectares harvested annually, Omnicane produces about 225,000 tonnes of sugarcane yearly.
Our mill annually produces around 140,000 tonnes of raw sugar for our refinery, 450,000 tonnes of bagasse for our cogeneration power plant, and 45,000 tonnes of molasses for our bioethanol distillery.
Our refinery produces around 200,000 tonnes of refined white sugar annually from raw sugar. Recently upgraded to increase its capacity and to reduce energy consumption, our refinery‘s production is certified by Coca-Cola standards and is exported to Europe.
Our cogeneration power plants at La Baraque generate steam and electricity for the cluster and export electricity to the national grid. Along with our power plant at Saint Aubin, the electricity exported yearly by our power plants to the national grid of Mauritius represents just under 30% of the annual electricity generated in the country.
Our bioethanol distillery can produce up to 24 million litres of bioethanol a year depending on the volume of molasses processed. The bioethanol can be used in pharmaceutical and industrial products as well as a source of biofuel in transportation and power production. The distillery’s by-products of raw gas and concentrated molasses stillage are then further transformed to produce food grade carbon dioxide and liquid fertilisers respectively.
Increasingly these days, our core business also needs professional property planning and development to ensure its strength and growth over time. Our purpose is to convert the most relevant sections of our land asset into projects that will support Omnicane’s business strategy.
